Where is the Cortina d'Ampezzo located?

The mountain holiday destination and ski resort Cortina d'Ampezzo (elevation 1224 m / 4016 ft) is a small town located in the Italian Dolomites (in the Alps), in the Province of Belluno (in the Veneto region), near the border between Italy and Austria.
Located on the river Boite, in an alpine valley, it is famous for its beautiful landscapes and great skiing. It is also famous for having some of the best events in the world. One of them is the Women's Audi FIS Ski World Cup Cortina d’Ampezzo, this year from 26.1.2024 - 28.1.2024.

Why is Cortina d'Ampezzo famous?

Skiing is one of the most popular sports in the Cortina d'Ampezzo ski resort. If you're looking for a fun way to spend your winter break, then skiing is definitely the way to go. Cortina Italy offers 36 ski lifts, 120 km of ski slopes (part of Dolomiti Superski) and 88 km of cross-country ski trails ... and the Olympic bobsleigh track "Eugenio Monti". The ski resort Cortina d'Ampezzo, known worldwide for its high society life as well as the scenario for movies like James Bond and Cliff-hanger with Sylvester Stallone.

The 2026 Olympic Winter Games will take place at Cortina d'Ampezzo and Milan.

Here you will also be able to go hiking in summer. Around the town there are numerous hiking opportunities and they all offer breathtaking views of the mountains, including short walks and long hikes.

Shopping is one of the great leisure activities in Cortina d'Ampezzo, with many clothing stores, souvenirs and gift shops.

These include the Museum of the Great War 1914-1918, the Museum of Modern Art "Mario Rimoldi".
